The Australian Community Climate and Earth System Simulator (ACCESS)
- Challenges & Opportunities

The Bureau of Meteorology Research Centre (BMRC) will hold its 18th annual Modelling Workshop from 28 November to 1 December 2006. This year's workshop, exploring the theme of Earth system modelling, will be conducted in the Bureau's new Head Office, 700 Collins Street, Melbourne. Dr Kamal Puri (BMRC) is the Workshop Chair.

A number of prominent scientists and experts from overseas, as well as the Bureau, CSIRO, and Australian universities, have been invited to give presentations on ACCESS and Earth system modelling for research and operational purposes. The presentations will be divided along the themes of:

Earth System Modelling: Scientific and Infrastructure Issues
NWP, including Data Assimilation and Ensembles
Coupled Modelling and Climate Impacts
Future Directions

Keynote presenters will include: John Dunne (GFDL), Sophie Valcke (CERFACS), Roy Kershaw (Met Office), Andrew Lorenc (Met Office), Vicky Pope (Met Office).
