Bureau of Meteorology Presentation to Indigenous Radio 4K1G June 2005

The Bureau of Meteorology is pleased to acknowledge the detailed community preparation information provided by Indigenous radio station 4K1G and its network during the threat posed by Cyclone Ingrid in March this year.  On June 15 the Bureau presented 4K1G announcers with a plaque in appreciation for their valuable contribution to enhancing the Bureau’s warnings messages for their Far North Queensland listeners. The presentations were made to Velma Gara, announcer for the Broadcast Remote Aboriginal Communities Service (BRACS, with 150 stations across the north) and to Florence Onus, manager of Indigenous Radio 4K1G.   In presenting this plaque the Bureau recognizes, with appreciation, the efforts of 4K1G’s dedicated radio announcers to working in partnership with the Bureau to provide the best possible warnings service to its many listeners.
