Terms of Reference

Revised March 2006

  1. Coordinate the SOOP related activites of the participating agencies:

  2.   a.  The Australian Bureau of Meteorology
      b.  CSIRO
      c.  The Royal Australian Navy
  3. Ensure the implementation and development of Australia's SOOP XBT network, including the Bureau's low density and frequently repeated XBT lines, and CSIRO's high density XBT lines, are in accordance with the scientific guidelines on sampling design provided by GOOS and CLIVAR, augmented by national requirements provided by the Joint CSIRO/Bureau Australian Facility for Ocean Oberving Systems (JAFOOS).
  4. Review the operation of the SOOP XBT network as necessary, in accordance with scientific and operational requirements, and exchanged with national partners in accordance with the GTSPP and SOOPIP monitoring deadlines:

  5.   a.  6 monthly metadata resporting; and
      b.  yearly data delivered by March of the following year
  6. Act as an advocate and focus for Australian SOOP activities in general, including coordination with the JCOMM Ship Observations Team.
