JAFOOS is involved in the development and implementation of the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), through its participation in AOOS, where it is responsible for:

• Australian Argo, including float purchase and deployment in the Australian region.

• Australian SOOP including management of data collection and quality control.

• Australian high density XBT network, including data collection and quality control.

JAFOOS also operates the GODAE International Project Office, as a part of GOOS.

JAFOOS operates the Indian Ocean Upper Ocean Thermal Data Assembly Centre, under the auspices of GTSPP, which is also a subproject of GOOS, through CLIVAR and WCRP.
