Introduction
Thr BLUElink project contained a contractual requirement to construct
and analyse the bathymetry datasets for the ocean prediction system.
The particular focus of the contract was "the region" (90E-180E,60S-10N)
and the OFAM global model is constrained to exclude the Antarctic shelf
and the Arctic. The resultant bathymetry from BLUElink constructed by Jim Mansbridge
is a 2minute file that covers 76S-76N. The file was derived as a
blend of USNavy DBDB2 and GEBCO 1minute and other Australian sources.
The IGM(AusCOM) model should take advantage of this revised dataset.
However IGM requires a global dataset that extends tot he Antarctic coastline
and includes the Arctic. Particular focus is required in the Antarctic
region for the Mercator grid. In the Arctic, the resolution is relatively
coarse in the displaced pole grid. Maybe improved when reverting to the
tripolar grid.
The page shows a series of image comparisons of specific sites in the
Antarctic and Arctic using four bathymetry files:
- DBDB2 (2minute Navy)
- ETOPO5 (5minute Navy)
- GEBCO (1minute)
- OCCAM (1minute)
