CRC Project B2.1 Smoke Management

Smoke Dispersion Forecasting (New South Wales Example)

Quick Links

These forecasts are provided for use by land managers on a trial basis. The calculations are based upon the premise that a vertical smoke source, usually extending from the surface to 1500 metres, is located at each source point. Smoke is assumed to be emitted from these sources for the entire duration of the forecast.

The dispersion maps represent the pollutant concentration distribution averaged from the ground level up to 1500 metres and are based on meteorological data from the mesoLAPS numerical weather prediction model.
