Interested in a career in information and communications technology (ICT)? We offer graduate and apprentice opportunities through the Australian Government's ICT Entry-level Programme.

ICT graduates and apprentices join our Information Services and Systems Division, which provides high-performance technology and computing capability, underpinning the Bureau's ability to provide services to Australians, all day, every day.

People passionate about ICT are invited to apply and gain experience through these unique opportunities. They could include rotations assisting in a diverse range of areas-from maintaining the Bureau's mobile app to managing Australia's biggest supercomputer.

What to expect

To help graduates and apprentices develop their skills and capabilities they receive ongoing support, mentorship and coaching, and have access to learning and development opportunities.

Participants also receive a competitive starting salary, access to flexible working arrangements, and ongoing employment.

Work rotations

Opportunities are available for graduates and apprentices to undertake rotations in different areas - these could include:

  • Digital: providing strategic direction for channel capability and services while managing project-based and day-to-day digital operations;
  • Information Technology Services: providing information, computing and communications solutions to support weather, climate, ocean and water products and services;
  • Systems Development and Maintenance: managing and supporting operational weather, climate, water and environment systems;
  • Solutions Development: contributing to the design of ICT solutions in accordance with the strategic plan; and
  • ICT Security: contributing to the uplift and ongoing management of access and identity controls of the Bureau's critical systems.

ICT Graduate Program

ICT graduates who have completed their degree within the last seven years are invited to apply through the ICT Graduate Program.

During the full-time 12-month program, graduates complete a Graduate Certificate in Government Informatics and become members of the Australian Computer Society.

Graduates are employed at the APS 3 level and advance to an APS 4 level upon successful completion of the program.

ICT Apprentice Program

Students currently completing their year 12 Certificate or job seekers looking for a new challenge are invited to apply through the ICT Apprentice Program.

During the program, apprentices work the equivalent of 4 days per week, one day dedicated to studying a certificate IV (two years) or a diploma (three years) in a specialist IT field.

Apprentices are employed at the APS 1 level (or equivalent).
