Australian Rainfall and Surface Temperature Data

From this link, users can retrieve area-averaged monthly time series of climate variables for a user specified grid box. All climate variables are represented on a one degree grid over the Australian land surface. Users can select a boxed area as small as one grid point (1 degree x 1 degree) and as large as the whole country. Irregular areas cannot be selected. Your selected area will be highlighted in colour.

Select a climate variable       Select your start coordinate     Longitude: °E     Latitude: °S

OR Click on a location for the top left corner of your user-defined box   Long: °E   Lat: °S

Step 1: Select the climate variable you wish to retrieve from the drop-down menu.

Step 2: By using your mouse, click on the location for the top left-hand corner of your user-defined box and then wait for the image to reload. Latitude and longitude coordinates selected represent the centre of one degree grid boxes (eg. 125.5°E represents a grid box from 125.0°E to 126.0°E). You can click anywhere on the map, including over the oceans to best define your grid. Resultant time series will represent land surface values only.

Step 3: Click on the bottom right-hand corner of your user-defined box and wait for the image to be reloaded. The resultant colour highlighted are represents your user-defined area. You can click anywhere on the map, including over the oceans to best define your grid. Resultant time series will represent land surface values only.

Step 4: Click 'Generate time series'. This will produce a bar-plot of annually averaged data for your selected climate variable and a text file of all monthly values.

You can return to Step 1 at any time by clicking the 'start again' button.
