For the June to August period, the chances of above average
seasonal daytime temperatures are between 60 and 70% over
most of Queensland, exceeding 70% around parts of the Gulf of
Carpentaria (see map).
So with climate patterns like the current, about six or seven winters
out of every ten are expected to be warmer than average across
most of the State, with about three or four out of ten being cooler.
Outlook confidence is related to the consistency of the
influence of Pacific and Indian Ocean temperatures on seasonal
temperatures. During winter, history shows this influence on
maximum temperatures to be moderately consistent over most
of Queensland (see background information).
Warmer than average nights are also favoured over Queensland,
with probabilities mainly ranging from 65 to near 80%.
Furthermore history shows the oceans' influence on minimum
temperatures in winter to be moderately consistent over the State.
