Animated Minimum Temperature Anomaly LoopMinimum temperature anomalyTemperature anomalies show the temperature departure from the long-period average. They tell us whether a place was warmer or cooler than average. These anomalies are shown in half degree intervals, with the positive anomalies or warmer areas shown in progressively redder hues and the negative anomalies or colder areas shown in blue. Each image in the loop shows average 10-year minimum temperature anomalies. For example, the first image in the "1900 - 1909" loop shows the average 10-year minimum temperature anomalies for the period 1900 to 1909, the second image is the average anomalies for the period 1901 to 1910, and so on. Therefore each image in the loop progresses by one year, and because each image shows 10-year average minimum temperature anomalies, this loop can be referred to as the 10-year running mean of Australian minimum temperature anomalies for the period 1900 to 1909. The remainder of the minimum temperature anomaly loops can be referred to in a similar way. |
