Animated Rainfall Loop

Rainfall

Each image in the movie loop shows average rainfall over a 10 year period. For example, the first image in the `1900 - 1909' movie loop shows the average rainfall for the period 1900 to 1909, the second image is the average rainfall for the period 1901 to 1910, and so on. Therefore each image in the loop progresses by one year, and because each image shows average rainfall over a 10 year period, this loop can be referred to as the 10-year running mean of Australian rainfall for the period 1900 to 1909.

The remainder of the rainfall loops can be referred to in a similar way. The last loop in the series, `1900 - 1986', contains 95 years of rainfall data (1900 to 1995) and is the 10-year running mean of Australian rainfall for the period 1900 to 1986.
