• 9th highest November on record for statewide average rainfall
• 8th consecutive November on record for above average statewide minimum temperatures
• 7th consecutive November on record for above average statewide mean temperatures

Rainfall

The majority of the state reported above average rainfall for November with an overall statewide average of 75.5 mm which is very much above the historical average of 45.5 mm. This is the 9th highest statewide average rainfall on record for November. The majority of the rain was due to an east coast low on the 19th / 20th and a low pressure trough on the 26th / 27th of the month.

In particular, northeastern and northwestern parts of the state reported very much above average rainfall with certain sites reporting record highest rainfall for November. The rest of the state reported average to above average rainfall.

The Murray Darling Basin (MDB) recorded a basin-wide average of 66.5 mm, which is above the historical average of 41.2 mm.

Some sites had their highest total November rainfall on record.

Some sites had their lowest total November rainfall on record.

Temperature

Temperatures overall were quite changeable throughout the state during November. A cold snap on the 23rd of the month produced light snowfalls in several location in NSW. The overall statewide average maximum temperature was 27.2ºC, which is 0.6ºC below the historical statewide average of 27.8ºC. Western and northern parts of NSW recorded below average maximum temperatures associated with the above average cloud and rainfall. The rest of the state reported close to average maximum temperatures.

The statewide overnight average minimum temperature was 14.4ºC, which is 1.0ºC above the historical average of 13.4ºC. In far northeastern and southern NSW the overnight minimum temperature was very much above average. This is the 8th consecutive November with above average minimum temperatures.

The statewide mean temperature was 20.8ºC, which is 0.3ºC above the historical mean of 20.6ºC. This is the 7th consecutive November with above average mean temperature for the state.

Other phenomena

A thunderstorm at Tamworth produced 75 mm between 10 am - 11 am on the 28th November. Tamworth reocorded 164.2 mm for the 24 hour rainfall to 9 am on the 29th November. This was Tamworth's wettest day on record for any month and caused major flooding in the area. Light snowfalls were reported at Orange, Oberon, Katoomba and the Snowy Mountains on the 23rd of the month caused by a cold southwesterly change.
