Wednesday, 5 September 2007 - Monthly Climate Summary for Northern Territory - Product code IDCKGC12R0
Jump to: Extremes Records Summaries Notes the top
Several locations across the Top End and the Roper McArthur and Barkly districts reported above average rainfall for August, the majority of which fell on the 17th and 18th. A large number of sites broke daily and monthly rainfall records at this time. Elsewhere, some light rain fell in parts around the southern half early in the month, however this is not unusual for August and rainfall totals were generally average to below average.
Some sites had their highest total August rainfall on record.
Some sites had their highest daily August rainfall on record.
Maximum temperatures, averaged over the month, were below average in the northern half, and above average in the south. The northern half was influenced by a couple of cool days associated with the cloudband, when several new temperature records were established.
Some sites had their lowest August mean daily maximum temperature on record.
Some sites had their coldest August day (lowest maximum temperature) on record.
Minimum temperatures were less than normal over most parts of the Territory, most notably in the central-west. Parts of the Tanami and southern Victoria River region were 2 degrees or more cooler than normal. No minimum temperature records were broken.

This statement has been prepared based on information available at 12 pm on Wednesday 5 September 2007. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.
The Rank indicates how rainfall this time compares with the climate record for the site,
based on the
decile ranking
(very low rainfall is in decile 1, low in decile 2 or 3,
normal in decile 4 to 7, high in decile 8 or 9
and very high is in decile 10).
The Fraction of normal shows how much rain has fallen this time as a
percentage of the long-term mean.
