Details

Hot weather prevailed over most of the territory with areas of up to 4 degrees above average in the southwest Alice Springs district.

Rainfall

Several locations in the Territory recorded scanty rainfall during the month mainly due to the passage of several cloud bands over the territory at different latitudes. The Victoria River district recorded good falls on the 25th and 26th.

Overall, average to below average rainfall was recorded in the southern half of the Territory. The Victoria River district reported above average rainfall while the other districts in the Top End recorded average to below average rainfall for the month.


Maximum temperature

Drier conditions promoted warmer than average days in most parts of the Territory.
Maximum temperatures were well above average in the south, some areas by as much as 3 to 4 degrees. Maximums were generally within one degree of normal over the Top End and up to 1 to 2 degrees above normal in the northwest.

Some sites had their highest October maximum temperature on record.


Minimum temperature

Minimum temperatures were within one degree of the long-term mean in the northwestern half of the Territory. One to two degrees warmer than normal was recorded in the southeastern half with some areas experiencing 2 to 3 degrees above normal.

Some sites had their highest October minimum temperature on record.

Some sites had their lowest October minimum temperature on record.
