Wednesday, 2nd April 2008 - Monthly Climate Summary for NT - Product code IDCKGC12R0
Warm and dry conditions prevailed over most of the Territory south of the Top End during March. These dry conditions and cooler temperatures are largely associated with cooler, drier air being transported northwards from southern parts.
Jump to: Extremes Records Summaries Notes the top
Rainfall was about average to above average over the Top End mainly due to thunderstorms and active gulflines with the active monsoon remaining north of Australia. In the southern half below average to very much below average rainfall was experienced.
Some sites had their highest daily March rainfall on record.
Maximum temperatures were mostly within one degree of the long term mean over the Top End except a few patches of above 1°C in the region. The maximums were above average to the south of the Top End. A few patches of 2 - 3°C above average maximums were recorded in the central Alice Springs district.
Minimum temperatures were mostly within one degree of the long term mean in the Territory. Exceptions to this were a few patches of below 1°C in the Gulf region and a few patches of above 1°C in the south.
Some sites had their lowest March temperature on record.
Some sites had their warmest March night (highest daily minimum temperature) on record.

This statement has been prepared based on information available at 12 pm on Monday 31 March 2008. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.
The Rank indicates how rainfall this time compares with the climate record for the site,
based on the
decile ranking
(very low rainfall is in decile 1, low in decile 2 or 3,
normal in decile 4 to 7, high in decile 8 or 9
and very high is in decile 10).
The Fraction of normal shows how much rain has fallen this time as a
percentage of the long-term mean.
