Summary
Early on the 2nd of June, a surface low pressure system developed near Moreton Island, generating maximum showers on its southern flank. The low moved south on the 3rd and the heavier showers and rain areas focussed over northeastern New South Wales, however scattered showers persisted over the far southeastern Queensland border. Showers also occurred over the eastern tropics and northern central districts due to sufficient moisture to the east of a low level inland trough. These showers persisted and merged into light rain for the central eastern districts on the morning of the 4th. The low intensified off the New South Wales Coast on the 4th before moving southeast towards New Zealand on the 5th. Strong winds developed south of Double Island Point on the 4th, contracting south on the 5th.On the 17th, a surface trough entered the southwest of the state and mid-level cloud band with patchy light rain spread east over southern Queensland. The cloud and patchy rain band moved northeast on the 19th ahead of a middle and upper trough. Dry air spread over the southern half of the state on the 20th, leading to a cold morning and widespread early frosts - extending into inland parts of the Southeast Coast district and north to southern central districts.
On the 23rd, a surface low pressure system formed near New Zealand, blocking an intense high pressure system east of Tasmania. Strong winds and showers developed along the Queensland east coast and over the northern Gulf of Carpentaria.
On the 26th, a surface trough over western Queensland moved east, reaching the Darling Downs in the evening. A cloud band produced patchy light rain over southwest areas. This cloud band contracted east, clearing the Channel Country in the evening. A ridge from the high pressure system in the Tasman Sea maintained the pressure gradient over the tropics with strong southeasterly winds north of Cairns and stream showers.

Notes
A Monthly Climate Summary is prepared to list the main features of the weather in Queensland using the most timely and accurate information available on the date of publication; it will generally not be updated. Later information, including data that has had greater opportunity for quality control, will be presented in the Monthly Weather Review, usually published in the fourth week of the month.
This statement has been prepared based on information available at 11 am on Thursday 1 July 2010. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.
Averages are long-term means based on observations from
all available years of record, which vary widely from site to site.
They are not shown for sites with less than 9 years of record, as they cannot then be calculated reliably.
The median
is sometimes more representative than the
mean
of long-term average rain.
The Rank indicates how rainfall this time compares with the climate record for the site,
based on the
decile ranking
(very low rainfall is in decile 1, low in decile 2 or 3,
average in decile 4 to 7, high in decile 8 or 9
and very high is in decile 10).
The Fraction of average shows how much rain has fallen this time as a
percentage of the long-term mean.
