Easterly onshore flow triggered showers along the east coast throughout the week, heaviest at the end of the week. Mt Sophia recorded 94 mm for the week, with  falls greater than 25 mm were recorded across parts of the east Queensland coast while falls of between 5 and 25 mm were recorded in the eastern Queensland coast.

For the week ending 14 May: onshore flow triggered heavy rain on the Queensland coast near Cairns. A strong cold front and associated surface troughs also produced rain across much of southeast Australia during the second half of the week, with rain extending into the southern regions of Queensland and the NT. Falls greater than 50 mm were recorded in the Cairns region of northern Queensland. The highest weekly rainfall total was 601 mm, recorded at Daradgee, near Innisfail in Queensland. Falls of between 15 and 50 mm were recorded across much of central Queensland and the east Queensland coast. Falls of between 5 and 15 mm were recorded surrounding areas of higher falls large areas of southern Queensland. Most of  northwest Queensland recorded little or no rainfall during the week.

For the week ending 21st May: A surface trough located was located near Bowen on the 16th and an upper level trough and associated cloud band extended from the northwest through central and southeast districts. These freatures produced scattered showers over the northern tropics, with cloud, patchy rain and some heavy showers over central and southeast districts. Falls greater than 70 mm were recorded in parts of the Capricornia and central coast. Falls of between 15 and 25 mm were recorded along much of eastern coast and adjacent inland of Queensland between Cairns and Hervey Bay. Most of western Queensland recorded little or no rainfall during the week.

From 22nd May to the end of the month: The passage of a surface trough and associated cloudband produced rain across the central and southern interior, spreading to the eastern parts of the state at the start of the week. Falls of between 25 and 50 mm were recorded surrounding areas of higher falls, as well as across much of southwest Queensland, while localised falls greater than 25 mm were also recorded in parts of the east Queensland coast between Cairns and Rockhampton. Falls of between 5 and 25 mm were recorded across most of the remaining areas of Queensland.

Notes

A Monthly Climate Summary is prepared to list the main features of the weather in Queensland using the most timely and accurate information available on the date of publication; it will generally not be updated. Later information, including data that has had greater opportunity for quality control, will be presented in the Monthly Weather Review, usually published in the fourth week of the month.

This statement has been prepared based on information available at 10 am on Monday 3 June 2013. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.

Averages are long-term means based on observations from all available years of record, which vary widely from site to site. They are not shown for sites with less than 9 years of record, as they cannot then be calculated reliably.
The median is sometimes more representative than the mean of long-term average rain.

The Rank indicates how rainfall this time compares with the climate record for the site, based on the decile ranking (very low rainfall is in decile 1, low in decile 2 or 3, average in decile 4 to 7, high in decile 8 or 9 and very high is in decile 10).
The Fraction of average shows how much rain has fallen this time as a percentage of the long-term mean.
