The highest recorded maximum temperature for December was 43.7°C at Gluepot on the 31st of the month.
Mean maximum temperatures over the agricultural districts of the state were generally 1 to 3°C above average, and ranged from 22.8°C at Robe in the Lower Southeast district to 33.0°C at Port Augusta Airport in the Western Agricultural. The highest recorded maximum temperature for December in the agricultural areas was 45.3°C at Keith also on the 31st December.
The last days of this month saw widespread heatwave conditions across the state with several locations in the south of the state creating new daily December maximum temperature records.
Mean minimum temperatures over the Pastoral Districts were typically within 1°C of average, ranging from 14.3°C at Gluepot and Yunta in the North East District to 23.2°C at Moomba Airport in the Far North District. This statement has been prepared based on information available at 5 pm on Wednesday 2 January 2008. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.
Normals are long-term means based on observations from
all available years of record, which vary widely from site to site.
They are not shown for sites with less than 20 years of record, as they cannot then be calculated reliably.
The median is sometimes more representative than the mean of "normal" rain.
The Rank indicates how rainfall this time compares with the climate record for the site,
based on the
(very low rainfall is in decile 1, low in decile 2 or 3,
normal in decile 4 to 7, high in decile 8 or 9
and very high is in decile 10).
The Fraction of normal shows how much rain has fallen this time as a percentage of the long-term mean.
