Jump to: Extremes Maps Records Notes the top
April rainfall, for WA as a whole, was near average. However, due to the effects of a series tropical lows impacting on the west coast, areas west a line from Exmouth in the Pilbara to Hopetoun in the Southeast Coastal received above to very much above average rainfall with Perth and many other sites registering their wettest April on record. In contrast, parts of the Kimberley, Interior, Goldfields and Southeast Coastal saw below to very much below average rainfall (see rainfall decile map for April).
April 2008 in WA was near average for mean daily maximum temperatures.
With the exception of parts of the Southwest Land Division, where the mean daily maximum temperature for April 2008 was below average, most of northern and eastern WA saw above average maximum temperatures (see April mean maximum temperature anomaly map). Averaged across the state, the mean daily maximum temperature for April was 0.54°C above the average (1961-1990).
The mean daily minimum temperature for April in WA was near average. Most of the Kimberley and small parts of the west of the state saw cooler than normal overnight temperatures, being up to 3°C below average in the east Kimberley. Large areas of the Pilbara, Eucla and adjacent areas recorded above to very much above average minimum temperatures (see April mean minimum temperatures anomaly map). The statewide average mean daily minimum temperature was 0.11°C above the average (1961-1990).

This statement has been prepared based on information available at 2 pm on Thursday 1 May 2008. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.
Normals are long-term means based on observations from
all available years of record, which vary widely from site to site.
They are not shown for sites with less than 30 years of record, as they cannot then be calculated reliably.
The median
is sometimes more representative than the
mean
of "normal" rain.
