Rainfall was above to very much above average for much of the western and central WA in November 2009, whilst the eastern parts of WA saw below to very much below average rainfall.
A trough in the first week of November produced unseasonal moderate to heavy rainfall in parts of the west Kimberley and Pilbara, resulting in several sites in the areas registering their highest daily rainfall amount or highest monthly rainfall total on record for November. A cold front in mid-November brought moderate to heavy rainfall to the western parts of southwest WA. (see November rainfall decile map). Averaged over the state as a whole, rainfall in November 2009 was above average.
Some sites had their highest November daily rainfall on record. Some sites had their highest total November rainfall on record. With the exception of near average daytime temperatures in parts of the Pilbara, November 2009 saw above to very much above average daytime temperatures across most of WA, with over 4°C warmer than normal maxima in the eastern Eucla (see November maximum temperature anomaly map).

Forrest in the Eucla district registered 15 consecutive days with temperature 35°C or above between 6 and 15 November, as well as 5 consecutive days with temperature 40°C or above between the 10th and 14th. This statement has been prepared based on information available at 10 am on Tuesday 1 December 2009. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.
Averages are long-term means based on observations from
all available years of record, which vary widely from site to site.
They are not shown for sites with less than 30 years of record, as they cannot then be calculated reliably.
The median
is sometimes more representative than the
mean
of long-term average rain.
