Details Extremes Maps Records Summaries Important notes the top
Rainfall was near average over much of WA during November 2010, though above to very much above average rainfall was reported in large parts of the Gascoyne and west Pilbara, as well as parts of the west Kimberley. Below to very much below average rainfall occurred in parts of the north Kimberley, Eucla, Goldfields, far southern Gascoyne and Central West. When averaged across the state as a whole, rainfall for November 2010 was close to average (see November rainfall totals & decile maps).
Thunderstorms produced some moderate to heavy falls during November in the Kimberley. Gibb River in the central Kimberley received a daily total of 63.8 mm on the 1st, the wettest day for November 2010 for WA. Broome Airport registered 57. 8 mm on the 20th, a new daily rainfall record for November for the airport, and the highest November daily fall in Broome since 140.5 mm was recorded at the Broome Post Office on 20 November 1910. Although Broome Airport recorded rainfall on only one day in November 2010, the 57.8 mm on the 20th was enough to exceed the previous highest November monthly total at the airport, and give Broome its wettest November since 1910. Thunderstorms in the northwest Gascoyne and west Pilbara late in the month brought some heavy falls to those regions, with Mia Mia (Gascoyne) recording its highest November daily fall since records commenced in 1904, whilst Mia Mia and Minnie Creek (Gascoyne) recorded their highest November total rainfall, largely as a result of these storms.
A middle level cloud band produced moderate to heavy rainfall in the Southwest district on the 10th with daily rainfall totals generally in the 30 to 40 mm range, and a few sites registered their wettest November day on record as a result.
Mean maximum temperatures were above to very much above average across western
WA and the west Kimberley during November 2010, with means up to 5 °C warmer
than normal along the west coast from Shark Bay to Perth. A predominant high
pressure ridge over the south of the state produced the warmest November days
on record for many locations in the Central West, Lower West and Southwest districts,
whilst the Lower Southwest region (southwest of a line from Jurien Bay to Bremer
Bay) recorded its warmest November since comparable records commenced in 1950.
In the northwest Kimberley, Kuri Bay recorded its hottest November in 40 years
of recording.
In contrast, mean maximum temperatures were below to very much below average in the east Kimberley and eastern Interior, with up to 3 °C cooler than normal mean maxima in the eastern Interior (see November maximum temperature decile & anomaly maps). When averaged over the whole state, November 2010 was above average in terms of mean maximum temperature.
Northern and central WA experienced hot days between the 9th and 11th, with numerous locations registering daily maxima over 40 °C. Yeelirrie in the northern Goldfields registered a daily maximum temperature of 43.2 °C on the 10th, its highest temperature for November in 36 years of record. During the second half of November, many sites in southwest WA experienced two hot spells. The first occurred from the 17th - 19th, whilst the second occurred during the last few days of the month. Jarrahwood (Southwest) and Kalbarri (Central West) registered their highest temperature on record as a result.
Mean minimum temperatures were above to very much above average over western and central WA, with up to 4 °C above normal mean minima in parts of the Gascoyne. The second half of November was particularly warm with sites in the Central West, Southwest and South Coastal districts registering their warmest November night on record, whilst Kalbarri and Mullewa in the Central West experienced their highest mean minimum temperature for November on record.
In contrast, mean minimum temperatures were below to very much below average in the much of the Kimberley, as well as in parts of the eastern Interior, with up to 3 °C cooler than normal minima in the central Kimberley and eastern Interior. Wyndham (Kimberley) and Balgo Hills (Interior) registered their lowest mean minimum temperature for November on record (see November minimum temperature decile & anomaly maps).
When averaged over the whole state, the mean minimum temperature for WA in November 2010 was above average, whilst it was the 4th warmest November on record in terms of mean minimum temperature in the Lower Southwest.

Details Extremes Records Summaries Important notes the top
A Monthly Climate Summary is prepared to list the main features of the weather in Western Australia using the most timely and accurate information available on the date of publication; it will generally not be updated. Later information, including data that has had greater opportunity for quality control, will be presented in the Monthly Weather Review, usually published in the fourth week of the month.
This statement has been prepared based on information available at 12 pm on Wednesday 1 December 2010. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.
Averages are long-term means based on observations from
all available years of record, which vary widely from site to site.
They are not shown for sites with less than 10 years of record, as they cannot then be calculated reliably.
The median
is sometimes more representative than the
mean
of long-term average rain.
The Rank indicates how rainfall this time compares with the climate record for the site,
based on the
decile ranking
(very low rainfall is in decile 1, low in decile 2 or 3,
average in decile 4 to 7, high in decile 8 or 9
and very high is in decile 10).
The Fraction of average shows how much rain has fallen this time as a
percentage of the long-term mean.
Records in this summary are based on sites with at least 30 years of data.
