Queensland in Spring 2007

Summary


Much of southern Queensland received average to above average rainfall for spring, while the Carpentaria, southern Peninsula and far west received average to below average rainfall.  Overall, temperatures did not vary much from average, however there were some record low maximum temperatures at the begining of the season.

Rainfall

Spring rainfall was average to above average over northern Cape York Peninsula and over much of southern Queensland, apart from the far southwest.  Parts of the Warrego and Central Highlands received very much above average totals, largely due to several days of rain associated with an upper level low pressure system in November.  Only a small region of the Carpentaria received very much below average rainfall during the season.

The highest spring rainfall was 535.0 mm at Upper Springbrook Alert, followed by 515.2 mm at Maleny Tamarind St, followed by 499.0 mm at Maleny Alert.

The wettest single day was at Rewan on the 25th of November with 161.0 mm, followed by 157 mm at Bluewater Tm and 156 mm at Bluewater Alert on the 28th of November.

Brisbane received 149.4 mm for the spring season, while the long term average is 216.9 mm.

Temperature

Both mean maximum (day-time) and mean minimum (night time) temperatures over spring remained within 1 to 2 °C of average.

The hottest day was 43.6 °C at Boulia Airport on the 28th of October and the coldest day was 10.4 °C at Applethorpe on the 5th of September.

At the beginning of September and the start of the season, some record low maximum temperatures occurred.   Some sites had their coldest spring day (lowest maximum temperature) on record.

The coldest night was 0.5 °C at Stanthorpe Leslie Parade on the 21st of September and the warmest night was 29.4 °C at Boulia Airport on the 28th of October.

Brisbane recorded a mean maximum temperature of 26.7 °C  (0.7 °C above the long term average), and a mean minimum temperature of 16.5 °C (0.9 °C above the long term average) for spring.
