Objectives

The Bureau of Meteorology is hosting a two-day workshop, with the aim of reviewing the effectiveness of the information on climate provided to people managing climate-sensitive activities during the drought. The workshop will draw together climate scientists, agricultural, water and natural resource specialists, fire and land management authorities, the media, farmers and others who will:

  • Review the impacts of the 2002-03 El Niņo-related drought;
  • Review the effectiveness of climate information services during the drought, and identify areas where these services could be improved;
  • Review the effectiveness of how climate information was communicated, from the perspective of the end user, the media, and other stakeholders;
  • Develop improved strategies for communicating climate information.
