Australian Daily Rainfall Data

Daily rainfall data have been compiled for all Bureau-managed stations across Australia. For each station the corresponding data file contains all recorded daily rainfall data from the start of recording until the latest available. Some stations do have gaps in the data record.
 
The data for approximately 17100 stations are held on two CD ROMs or a single DVD ROM, grouped according to the State of Australia in which the station is located.

States are distributed as follows:
CD 1 - Antarctica, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Tasmania and Western Australia
CD 2 - Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, and the Islands
DVD - All States, Territories and Islands.

Updated: Second quarter of each calendar year
Format: CD/DVD ROM. Data files are stored in WINZip format. Data records are in comma delimited ASCII text, with 1 day per record. The data record format is 39 byte per day (this file also contains the station listing format). Note that the format has changed since the earliest versions, where the data were stored in 44 byte, fixed width format. The CD/DVD ROMs do not contain any data analysis software. Brief notes are provided.
