Rainfall maps
What do the maps show?
These maps show the percentage of average annual rainfall that falls in each month or season. Seasonal and regional variations in rainfall can be investigated using these maps. For example, the maps show that the majority of rainfall in northern Australia occurs during the wet season (October to April), whilst in southern Australia, most of the rainfall tends to fall in the winter months (June to August). This rainfall pattern can be explained by the movement of the sub-tropical ridge, frontal systems and the occurence of the Australian monsoon.
