Training
Introduction
The project will involve staff from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology traveling to the five target countries (PIC). They will work in partnership with the Director of the PIC meteorological institution visited to;
- Undertake a 1-2 hour workshop at the PIC to,
- Presentation 1,
- Goals and objectives of PI-CDR,
- Planning a Data Rescue program,
- Protecting and handling paper records, and
- Organising paper records.
- Presentation 2,
- Digital image basics,
- Image formats,
- Scanning devices, and
- Storage mediums.
- Make an inventory of all meteorological observing sites within the PIC,
- Make an inventory of meteorological data in electronic repositories,
- Make an inventory of meteorological data in paper repositories,
- Make an inventory of meteorological metadata in electronic repositories,
- Make an inventory of meteorological metadata in paper repositories,
- Determine which paper based records have not been digitised,
- In partnership with the PIC, prioritise paper based records for digitization, and
- In partnership with the PIC, recommend storage arrangements for paper based records to ensure their survival pending digitization.
Templates
Inventories are to be produced on standard templates in MS Excel. The projects representative who visits your country will provide this templatae.
