Storm Confirmation

aboutAbout storm confirmation

To access information about current storms please refer to the Bureau's Warnings and Observations pages available for each state via the homepage.

This tool issues confirmations for historical thunderstorms (lightning) and/or strong winds observed within 50 km of a selected location and date. Confirmations are available for the last four years, up to 3 days prior to the current date.

If you enter a postcode or the name of a location, the search area is calculated around a defined point at the centre of the selected location (the centroid).

Please note that large postcode areas will not be fully covered by the 50 km search radius. The latitude and longitude used for the search is provided in the confirmation report.

Note: This tool can only confirm that thunderstorms and/or strong winds were observed and reported to the Bureau of Meteorology and is not able to prove their absence.

Instructions

Type either a few letters of a name of a location or enter a postcode then select the location name from the list that appears. Select the appropriate date and click the 'Submit' button. Storm confirmation results will appear below. Processing time is usually less than 30 seconds, however this may vary at times of high demand.
