JUST FOR TEACHERSThe Bureau can supply data for use in school projects. We really appreciate the teacher who, after the class has written their letters to us, picks the best letter and sends that, or who forwards all the requests bundled in one envelope. It is difficult for us to cope with the work which results when the whole class contacts us, one by one, with identical requests: we can provide much better assistance if we only have to do it once! Teachers are invited to test questions on us before setting tasks for their students, to ensure the "do-ability" of the project. Some seemingly simple questions can have rather complex answers!
Videos about weather and climate may be worth showing to your class. FARMING A SUNBURNT COUNTRY, is quite popular with schools. It covers drought and the El Nino phenomen on. The CRC for Southern Hemisphere Meteorology's new video FORECASTS FOR SUN SAFETY describes UV radiation and the danger it poses, how to interpret UV forecasts and how to reduce exposure to UV.
If you live in a country town, there may be a Meteorological Office nearby. Our Met Offices welcome school visits, subject to availability of staff and operational requirements. Find them in the telephone book, under "Bureau of Meteorology" or contact the Bureau Regional Office in your state to find the office nearest you. For more information see "Visits to the Bureau of Meteorology".
Our Catalogue of Publications lists what is available in published form from us. It is free. Our publications are mostly suited to upper secondary students. To obtain your copy, email us, telephone us at 03 9669 4314, or write to our Head Office, attention: Publications Section.
We include some links to schools programs; many of these may already be familiar to you.
