Getting to Hobart

Tasmania is a little over an hour's flight from Melbourne, the nearest mainland capital city, and less than 2 hours if coming direct from Sydney. The major domestic airlines ( Qantas , Virgin Blue , Jetstar and Tiger Airways ) fly direct between Hobart and other Australian cities, with connections across the country and internationally.

Most travellers will find flying in to Hobart on the Tuesday afternoon or evening the best option. Flight schedules and times change from time to time, so check with the airlines. Webjet is just one of many services that let you check and compare prices and schedules.

If you come in to another Tasmanian airport (or are looking to travel around), TasAir is the main operator of intra-state flights.

To Tasmania by ferry

If you have more time, you could consider the Spirit of Tasmania passenger and vehicle ferry, operating between Port Melbourne and Devonport. It is at least a 3-hour drive from Devonport to Hobart, or there is a bus run by run by Redline.
