Recent Events Scattered showers and thunderstorms were reported across southern and eastern Victoria in the 24 hours to 9am today. Heaviest falls were associated with thunderstorms. The largest totals were 52mm at Cowwarr Weir, 33mm at Lakes Entrance, 32mm at Glenmaggie Creek and 31mm at Licola and Reeves Knob. Overnight minimum temperatures were mostly between 1 and 5 degrees below normal around the State. Minima mostly ranged between 9 and 16 degrees, but were a few degrees lower at altitude. The lowest recorded temperature was 3 at Mount Hotham. Showers were reported across southern and mountain parts of the State, with the majority occurring in central and eastern parts. By the afternoon isolated thunderstorms developed about the northeast ranges. Most totals were less than 5mm, however some locally heavier falls were reported in West and South Gippsland. Stratford received 20mm, followed by 15mm at Berringama and 13mm at Balook. Skies were mostly sunny in the north, but became mostly cloudy in the south. Southeast to southwest winds were mainly of moderate strength, but were fresh at times in the afternoon across parts of the south. Maximum temperatures to 3pm were again generally 2 to 7 degrees below average across the State. Maxima typically ranged between 19 and 28 degrees. The highest temperature recorded was 29 at Swan Hill. In Melbourne the temperature ranged from an overnight minimum of 15.6 at 7:09am to a maximum of 23.7 degrees at 1:52pm. In the 24 hours to 9am today 0.2mm recorded in the city gauge. Another 0.2mm of rain fell in the 6 hours to 3pm. Explanatory Notes A trough of low pressure extends across eastern Victoria while a high pressure system south of South Australia extends a ridge south of Tasmania. A low pressure system deepening over the Tasman Sea will move slowly to the southeast with the ridge of high pressure expected to remain across Tasmania on Monday. The high will move east of Tasmania on Tuesday and be located in the central Tasman Sea on Wednesday and over New Zealand on Thursday. A low pressure trough will enter the southwest of the State late on Wednesday and move slowly eastwards across the State on Thursday.
