IDV10300 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Victoria Notes on the Weather for Victoria Issued at 1630 on Saturday the 4th of July 2009 Recent Events In the 24 hours to 9am showers affected all Victorian districts. Rainfall totals on the northern plains were small, generally less than 1mm. On and south of the ranges falls of 5-10mm were common. The highest reported totals were 20mm at Weeaproinah, 18mm at Dunns Hill and 14mm at Marysville. In the 6 hours to 3pm showers persisted over southern and mountain areas. The highest totals were in the southern Alps, with 16mm at Mt Baw Baw and 11mm at Mt Buller. Other totals were generally around 5mm or less. Overnight minimum temperatures were mostly 1 to 5 degrees above the July average. The lowest reported minimum was -5 degrees at Mt Hotham and Falls Creek. Away from the Alpine district the lowest was -1 degree at Omeo followed by zero degrees at Corryong and Lake Dartmouth. Other minima generally ranged between 4 and 10 degrees. Maximum temperatures tended to be within a degree or two of average. The highest reported maximum was 16mm at Mildura and Laverton, while most other maxima ranged between 11 and 15 degrees. In contrast the temperature only rose to -1 degree at Mt Hotham and zero degrees at Mt Buller and Falls Creek. Fresh southwesterly winds were strong at times, mostly over elevated areas and about exposed parts of the coast. The highest reported wind gusts were 109 km/hr at Wilsons Promontory and 72 km/hr at Gabo Island. The day was generally cloudy across the State, although there were sunny periods in the northwest during the morning. In Melbourne the temperature ranged from 9.2 degrees at 9.49pm Friday to 15.1 degrees at 13.35pm Saturday. The city rain gauge recorded only 1mm in the 24 hours to 9am, although totals of over 10mm were reported over the eastern suburbs. In the 6 hours to 3pm there was no rainfall reported in the city, but 3mm was recorded at Coldstream and Dunns Hill, and 2mm at Scoresby. Explanatory Notes .
