HAS Program

The Hydrometeorological Advisory Service provides specialised advice to the community on hydrometeorological issues. In recent years this advice has included the provision of rainfall Intensity-Frequency-Duration (IFD) data and Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) estimates. Non-specific services such as advice on rainfall and evaporation in Australia have also been provided in response to user demands. The ongoing objectives of the Hydrometeorological Advisory Service Program are:

Ongoing Objectives

To provide authoritive and relevant hydrometeorological services and advice for the design of telecommunication networks and hydraulic structures including bridges, culverts, drainage systems, dams and spillways.
To provide informed and reliable input on the climate statistics of extreme rainfall and other specialist advice to the development of national design standards and codes of practice for the water, building and communications industries.
To improve the quality, consistency and relevance of hydrometeorological services by means of review and evaluation of feedback from users.
To research and develop hydrometeorological practices consistent with users needs.
