Typical midwinter weather map: Southern Hemisphere

This sequence of surface pressure weather charts (22-25 July 2000) shows -

  • A belt of high pressure over much of the continent
  • A belt of low pressure south of the continent
  • An outbreak of cold southerly flow over southeastern Australia in the wake of a large low pressure system in middle latitudes
