After you have completed your plot of tropical cyclone John's track, use your image (or the image below) to complete the following exercises.
Answers are listed at the bottom of the page.

a) Noting the position of John on the 13th and 14th of December, and using the scale on the map, calculate the approximate speed of movement.
Is it:
i) 5 km/h ii) 10 km/h iii) 20 km/h iv) 25 km/h

b)
If John continued to move in the same direction and with this same speed, when would it cross the coast?
Is it:
i) within 3 hours ii) within 6 hours iii) within 18 hours  

c)
Noting the positions on the 13th, 14th and 15th, what is the approximate angular shift in the direction of movement?
Is it:
i) less than 30 degrees ii) 30 - 60 degrees iii) greater than 60 degrees
