Comments: Manam is a consistently active volcano. Activity during this month at Manam was actually reported as being relatively mild; nevertheless, a plume was clearly visible on this day. The plume from Rabaul was due to a Strombolian eruption at Tavurvur cone. Strong southerly winds blew this plume north-northwest.
