Raung, eastern Java
Image Source: NOAA/AVHRR, 25 August, 2002, visible (left), and multispectral (right). The resort island of Bali is on the right of the image. Comments: Raung, near the eastern end of Java, is frequently active, and was particularly so during 2002. The image above shows an eruption cloud in late August, which reached an altitude of 9 km above mean sea level. Most of the activity observed during the year was more like that below; the various images show the appearance of the region from eastern Java across to Lombok with various wavelengths and enhancements being used .
