Rinjani, Lombok, Indonesia, July 1994(Related pages: Rinjani, August 1994, Rinjani, September 1994)
Comments: The plume on this occasion can be seen crossing the popular resort of Bali (just west of Lombok), with an international airport located near the southern tip of the island. Note the 'bifurcation' of the plume on the visible images below, a frequently observed effect caused by interactions between the eruption column and the prevailing wind.
Image source: NOAA-11, 5 July 1994, enhanced Infrared.
Comments: The white pixels near the volcano and to the north of the island show where ash cloud has been identified by the volcanic ash detection algorithm. (Related pages: Rinjani, August 1994, Rinjani, September 1994)
