Comments: Following an earthquake in the Mentawai Islands off Sumatra on 10 April 2005, activity at Talang volcano on the west Sumatran coast increased. An explosion from the NE flank occurred at 20:40 UTC on 11 April (03:40 local on the 12th). The explosion created a small ash cloud that could only be tracked for a few hours. The cloud reached a height of about 25,000 ft (7.5 km), based on the direction of movement and known wind profiles. Immediately following the eruption, the Volcanological Survey of Indonesia raised the hazard alert level to 4 (out of 4).

Current official news on Indonesian eruptions can be found at the VSI Portal.
