Consultative Services form one of the eight major outputs of the Bureau and contribute to Output 1.3-Meteorological and Related Services. Consultative Services typically include professional advice on the application of meteorology and related science to a wide range of community, industry and environmental issues and problems, along with published and unpublished reports on the results of specialised investigations of meteorological problems and applications carried out for individual clients and customers. Output performance is measured against a number of quantity, quality and price targets. The results achieved for 2003-04 are provided below along with a commentary on significant variations.
Consultative services continue to be valued by the user community. The number of consultative services undertaken in 2003-04 was on target and similar to last year. The quality of the Bureau's consultative services was assessed by client surveys. The majority (96 per cent) of respondents who completed surveys expressed satisfaction with the service provided. The failure to meet the target price for Special Investigations was primarily due to delays in overseas projects related to both implementation constraints and tender processes. The Bureau's consultative services continue to be promoted in those areas where climate and weather are key operational factors. The Special Services Unit continues to explore new ways of offering services on a consultative basis. |
