Chapter 3 Climate Applications and Services

Climate Applications

Climate information is being increasingly applied to a diverse range of industry sectors, government agencies and broadly by members of the general public. Applications of climate data range from structural design to agricultural risk management through to formulation of government policy. The following summary presents a selection of climate applications being conducted in Australia with a focus on major activities occurring during 2001 and 2002. While most are not specifically undertaken under the auspices of WCASP, they contribute to the goals of WCASP at both the national and international level. Many related activities are also covered in Chapter 4 on Climate Impacts and Responses, since many projects identified as climate response studies could equally be regarded as climate applications.
