Chapter 3 Climate Applications and Services

Conclusions

The broader range and easier access to climate data and information have been major factors in improving climate services and applications within Australia. We have seen significant improvements in the quality of climate information as providers have responded to the needs of end users. This has been particularly evident in the products, services and applications developed to address immediate concerns with the Australian environment (e.g. drought in 2002) and, increasingly, with those that will require higher level strategic intervention (e.g. land degradation, water use, salinity). Other users of climate services continue to grow. Concerns over future climate change are driving major studies into determining links with health and also motivating alternative options for energy generation. The rate of demand for climate services and applications can be expected to increase further in coming years.
