Chapter 7 Australian Participation in the IPCCC

Australian Input to IPCCC Assessments > Technical Papers

Four Technical Papers were completed by the IPCC Working Groups in response to specific requests from the SBSTA and the Ad hoc Group on the Berlin Mandate (AGBM) for further clarification of material from the SAR. Technical Papers are based solely on material already approved or accepted as part of earlier IPCC assessments, in this case the SAR and the 1994 Special Report, with no additional or more recently published material included. The Technical Papers went through a formal government/peer review process but were not subject to a formal approval process. The IPCC Bureau served as an ‘editorial board’ to ensure that government review comments were addressed adequately and then accepted the papers.

The Technical Papers addressed the following topics:

  • I - Technologies, Policies and Measures for Mitigating Climate Change (Working Group II);
  • II - An Introduction to Simple Climate Models used in the IPCC Second Assessment Report (Working Group I);
  • III - Stabilization of Atmospheric Greenhouse Gases: Physical, Biological and Socio-economic Implications (Working Group I); and
  • IV - Implications of Proposed CO2

Limitations (Working Group I).

The principal Australian involvement with these Technical Papers was through the government review of the draft text.
