700 Collins Street, Batman's Hill, Docklands
The right hand side of the image shows exactly where the new building will be. The site is located between Bourke and Collins Streets on the Docklands side of Spencer Street station. The site is situated between the Collins Street extension (under construction) and the steps leading down. The Collins Street extension is estimated for completion by September 2002. The stairs you can see lead into the pedestrian subway that takes you directly to Spencer Street station platforms. On the extreme right you can just see the Goods Sheds, which are heritage listed but have development plans for renovating these into a fruit market as well as restaurants and eateries. On the left of screen you can see Wurundjeri Way heading in both directions. Southbound lanes take you over the Yarra with direct access to the Westgate and Monash freeways and southern suburbs.
