Introduction Severe Storms Wind Temperature Rainfall

INTRODUCTION

Unexceptional winter weather was felt in much of Australia during June. The most noteworthy characteristic of the month was low rainfall in the Southeast Quarter.

SEVERE STORMS

South Australia


A Thunderstorm on the 6th, produced a 95 km/hr gust at Cape Jaffa (Lower Southeast).

New South Wales


On the 13th Albury (Southwest Slopes) had wind gusts to 89 km/hr.

WIND

Western Australia

A series of cold fronts crossing the lower west coast produced gale force winds in parts of the far southwest on the 4th. Cape Leeuwin experienced gusts of more than 94 km/h during a 6 hour period with a maximum gust of 126 km/h.

Victoria

Rainfall in June was generally below average. All Victorian Districts except North Mallee, North and East Gippsland have recorded rainfall in the lowest 20% of records for the month.

Australian Capital Territory

Rainfall at Canberra Airport of 118.2mm was the second wettest June on Record (the record being 126.0mm in 1956).
