Help for Teachers |
| Introduction |
|
The Students and Teachers web pages were produced by a practicing science/art teacher employed by the Bureau of Meteorology. They include lesson plans, student worksheets and information pages. Below are instructions and information relating to specific issues you may have in using these web pages. Hopefully we have covered most of the major issues. If you have any comments, suggestions or criticism please feel free to communicate them to us via the feedback link found in the footer of each page. If you use the words education, students or teachers, somewhere in your emailed feedback, it will help us to find your email out of the hundreds that we receive. Please note you are free to make photocopies of the educational materials provided, for use in the classroom. |
| How to use lesson plans, student worksheets and information pages | |
|
The lesson plans have solutions to questions found on the student worksheets. Treat them as references and as a starting point for further discussion. You may want to prevent students from accessing the solutions to questions given on the teacher lesson plan. To do this you could print off the student worksheet and photocopy one for each student, or provide them with the specific URL (web site address) of the worksheet (which includes a direct link to the related content page but not to the lesson plan) and have them work from the computer screen. Some student worksheets have information that provides students with the solutions to questions. You may want to remove that section before you make multiple copies for student use (you could cover it during photocopying). |

| The year levels | |

The year levels are associated with the years of schooling as follows:
Both the National Profiles and the Victorian Curriculum Standard Frameworks II were used as references when choosing learning outcomes to be addressed in the units of work found in these web pages. |

| Printing issues | |
|
With some computers you may encounter the following printing problems:
|
|
| Animation issues | |
| How well the
animations work will depend on the version of the browser you use and
the speed of your computer and modem.
Some of the animations found on these web pages are made up of a series of files shown to you one at a time. You may have to wait 20 - 30 seconds for all the files to download before the animation will run properly. Some of the animations are controlled by javascript (specifically those that come with a control panel). If the animations don't work, it could be due to the 'enable javascript' option being turned off in your browser or your browser may not be able to use javascript. The following browsers should be able to use javascript - Netscape version 3 and greater and Internet Explorer version 3 and greater. Earlier browsers may or may not cope with javascript. |

| Browser issues | |
|
Font sizes Most browsers have an option that allows you to change the size of the fonts used on the web page you're viewing. The method of changing the font size differs slightly with each browser. You will need to explore the options your browser provides. With some versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer you'll find the option under the VIEW menu item. Other versions provide small icons in the menu bar with the letter 'A', which represents fonts. |
