A travel
itinerary
Most
people will be more comfortable if they can visit northern and central
Australia during the (southern) winter and go to the high country,
the south coast and Tasmania during our summer. As an example, you
could visit Tasmania (see
Hobart) during summer or Melbourne
in autumn, then travel north via Sydney
as autumn continues. In winter, visit the Great Barrier Reef (see
Cairns climate
information),then go to
Ayers Rock/Uluru and Kakadu national park (see Jabiru).
If time permits, go on to Western Australia in the spring, to see
the wildflowers (see Morawa
climate information). Of course, many variations on this theme are
possible.
Our
seasons
Summer is from
December to February; autumn from March to May; winter from June
to August; and spring from September to November. For most of the
country the hottest month is January.
