Coastal Waters Forecast for South Australia

Weather Situation

A high pressure ridge lies over the south of SA but will move northwards throughout the day as a cold front moves over the south. The ridge will persist over the north on Thursday and Friday and result in a westerly airstream over the south.

Far West Coast: WA-SA Border to Fowlers Bay

Forecast for Wednesday 8 October until midnight

Winds: Westerly 15 to 20 knots turning southwesterly in the early afternoon. Seas: Below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday. Swell: Southwesterly 2 to 3 metres inshore, increasing to 2.5 to 4 metres offshore around midday. Weather: Mostly sunny.

Forecast for Thursday 9 October

Winds: Southwesterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots offshore during the morning and early afternoon. Winds tending westerly before dawn then becoming variable about 10 knots in the evening. Seas: 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing below 1 metre by early evening. Swell: Southwesterly 3 to 5 metres. Weather: Mostly sunny.

Winds: Variable about 10 knots becoming west to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon then tending southeast to southwesterly during the evening. Seas: Below 1 metre. Swell: Southwesterly 4 to 5 metres. Weather: Sunny.

Upper West Coast: Fowlers Bay to Elliston

Forecast for Wednesday 8 October until midnight

Winds: Westerly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots south of Streaky Bay during the afternoon and evening. Winds tending southwesterly in the evening. Seas: Around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres south of Streaky Bay around midday. Swell: Southwesterly 2 to 3 metres, increasing to 3 to 4 metres south of Streaky Bay around midday. Weather: Partly cloudy.
