For the following observation types, use the table below for the definition of rejected/accepted flag types:

AMDAR & AIREP Aircraft (automated & manual) reported observations
BUOY Drifting & moored buoy observations
PAOB Manually generated psuedo-observations of MSLP
SHIP Surface observation from a sea station
SYNOP Surface observation from a fixed land station
SYNOPHI Stations 800 metres above sea level which report only station level pressure and not MSLP

  FLAG TYPE DESCRIPTION
REJECTED TOO CLOSE Observation was not selected because it is too close to a previously selected sounding
CROSS VALIDATION Datum failed neighbour check
IN EXTRACTION Covers observations that are known to be unreliable before model is run
WRONG TIME Asynoptic. Time difference between observation and model first guess field exceeds prescribed time
INCOMPLETE/UNSPECIFIED Data is incomplete or unspecified rejection
GROSS ERROR Observation differs from model first guess field by more than presribed amount
DUPLICATE Observation is an exact duplicate of another
ACCEPTED   Data used by GASP model

Description of GASP model and details of modifications to GASP

The observation charts of Accepted and Rejected Observations are based on code developed by Dr. Chris Tingwell and modified by Christina Sirakoff to give the final plots. (9/12/2002)
