Flood Watch for the New South Wales North West, Central West and Bellinger Catchments

Issued at 5:02 pm EDT on Tuesday 7 December 2021

Flood Watch Number: 3

(re-issue to correct title)

Flood warnings are current for New South Wales North and Central West Inland catchments from the Namoi to the Murrumbidgee Rivers.

Renewed river level rises and flooding is possible from Wednesday across the Upper Macintyre, Gwydir, Castlereagh and Bellinger Rivers from rainfall associated with a deepening trough extending across inland New South Wales. Renewed river rises are also possible in the Lachlan, Namoi, Macquarie and Bogan Rivers where flood warnings are current.

The situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated to reflect any renewed rises as the situation develops.

Catchments are wet following persistent and recurring rainfall in recent weeks.

A Flood Watch is current for widespread areas of Southern Queensland.

The weather system is expected to cause flooding for the catchments listed from Wednesday. Flood classes (minor, moderate, major) are only defined for catchments where the Bureau provides a flood warning service.

Additional catchments likely to be affected include:

Bellinger and Kalang Rivers
minor flooding

Upper Macintyre River
minor to moderate flooding

Gwydir River
minor flooding

Castlereagh River
minor to moderate flooding

Flood Warnings are current for the following catchments: Namoi, Macquarie, Bogan, Lachlan, Murrumbidgee, Warrego, Paroo, Barwon, Macintyre and Weir Rivers.
