Minor to Moderate Flood Warning for the Georges and Woronora Rivers

at Liverpool, Milperra, Picnic Point and Woronora

MODERATE FLOODING IS OCCURRING AT LIVERPOOL AND MILPERRA

MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURRING AT WORONORA

Heavy rainfall recorded across the Georges and Woronora Rivers over the past 24 hours has caused river level rises and moderate flooding at Liverpool and Milperra, and minor flooding at Woronora Bridge. Heavy rainfall is forecast for the next 48 hours which may cause renewed river level rises.

A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for the Metropolitan, Illawarra and parts of Hunter and Central Tablelands Forecast Districts.

Georges River:

Moderate flooding is occurring along the Georges River at Liverpool and Milperra. Minor flooding expected to occur at Picnic Point.

The Georges River at Liverpool Bridge may peak near 4.30 metres Sunday afternoon, with moderate flooding. Further rise possible.

The Georges River at Milperra Bridge (AHD) may peak around 4.00 metres 11:00 am Sunday with moderate flooding, with further rises possible.

The Georges River at Picnic Point expected to exceed the minor flood level (2.00 metres) 11:00 am Sunday. The river level may peak near 2.2 metres, with minor flooding during this afternoon. Further rises possible.

Woronora River:

Minor flooding is occurring along The Woronora River at Woronora Bridge.

The Woronora River at Woronora Bridge is likely to reach around 1.70 metres late Sunday evening, with minor flooding. Further rises possible.

Flood Safety Advice:

In life threatening emergencies, call 000 (triple zero) immediately. If you require rescue, assistance to evacuate or other emergency help, ring NSW SES on 132 500.

  • * Avoid drowning. Stay out of rising water, seek refuge in the highest available place.
  • * Prevent damage to your vehicle. Move it under cover, away from areas likely to flood.
  • * Avoid being swept away. Stay out of fast-flowing creeks and storm drains.
  • * Never drive, ride or walk through flood water. Flood water can be deceptive and dangerous.
