Moderate Flood Warning for the Gwydir River

at Gravesend, Pallamallawa and Yarraman

MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT GRAVESEND AND PALLAMALLAWA

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT YARRAMAN SATURDAY NIGHT

Moderate rainfall has fallen over the Gwydir River catchment during Thursday and Friday causing minor flooding at Gravesend and Pallamallawa. A flood peak was observed at Gravesend early Saturday morning, and at Pallamallawa Saturday afternoon.

Minor flooding continues along the Gwydir River at Yarraman, where river levels may reach the moderate flood level overnight Saturday night into Sunday.

Gwydir River downstream of Copeton Dam:

Minor flooding is occurring along the Gwydir River at Gravesend and Pallamallawa. Minor flooding is occurring at Yarraman, where moderate flooding is possible Saturday night.

The Gwydir River at Gravesend Road Bridge peaked at 8.18 metres around 04:00 am Saturday 27 November and is currently at 7.28 metres and falling with minor flooding.

The Gwydir River at Pallamallawa is currently at 7.24 metres and near its peak with minor flooding.

The Gwydir River at Yarraman Bridge may reach the moderate flood level (6.50 m) around 11:00 pm Saturday.

  • * Avoid drowning. Stay out of rising water, seek refuge in the highest available place.
  • * Prevent damage to your vehicle. Move it under cover, away from areas likely to flood.
  • * Avoid being swept away. Stay out of fast-flowing creeks and storm drains.
  • * Never drive, ride or walk through flood water. Flood water can be deceptive and dangerous.
